So the kids are back to school which means – Fall is HERE. Yes, I know that Fall doesn’t officially start until September 22nd but in my mental calendar, it’s time! Although every year I truly enjoy the summertime, the arrival of falling leaves, pumpkin everything and cool crisp days are giving me so much joy right now. Trust me I plan on doing all the traditional Fall “to-dos”. You know – apple picking, pumpkin patching, football tailgating, corn mazing and hay-bale riding etc. Don’t tell my husband the reason I wanted to move from Florida up to South Carolina was to have some resemblance of fall weather again. Here are some way I plan on celebrating Fall this year and encourage you to do the same:
- Figure out how to make your favorite Fall drink. I absolutely love PSLs. For don’t have social media, that is a Pumpkin Spice Latte. And since I am now Keto = sugar-free, I have figured out how to make this without any sugar. If PSLs are not your thing, there are so many to choose from, Hot Cocoa, Hot Apple Cider, Chai Tea Lattes, etc. If you are anything like me you will scour Pinterest for hours for some recipe ideas.
- Make a Fall Decor Item. I love fall wreaths. I have found some awesome farmers markets here in my part of SC. The ones I frequent have gorgeous flowers that will make beautiful wreaths this Fall. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, or even real flowers (or flowers at all!), but a new door hanger, or something nice to hang on the wall in the guest room before Fall guests arrive is so nice. I love this activity because you can get the whole family involved, or take some “me time” to do it by yourself.
- Find a new show to watch with your spouse. Fall is when all of the networks come back from their summer breaks so that means all our favorite shows come back. And that also means the networks be airing some new series in hopes that they are hits. Honestly, there are so many good shows that hubby and I can’t wait to return this season, (insert This Is Us), it can be overwhelming. This is why I love our DVR system so much. We can pick some shows we want to watch and set them to record on our DVR. Then when we are ready we can grab a snack, pour a glass of wine and snuggle up and catch up on these great shows.
- Have friends over for dinner. Another fall favorite of mine planning get-togethers. So while the summer season is the time for outdoor backyard BBQs, which is usually hubby’s domain. The cool Fall weather makes us all retreat inside, so what a perfect time to stay warm together and foster relationships over a nice meal. You can make it as fancy or as chilled out as you want. I like to make something warm and hearty like chili and cornbread or a nice beef stew.
- Prep your family room. Having my family cozy together in our living spaces in my favorite thing to do in the fall. So to prepare for that I love to decorate our living room in warm, rich fall tones. And add some yummy candles and warm plush throw blankets to the chairs. It feels super inviting and encourages them all to cozy up in a chair to watch movies or a football game. You don’t have to spend much or anything, but it’s always so refreshing to come into the house and feel like your space is exactly what you need after a cool, rainy, day.
- Bonfire. Enjoy the last few nice nights before winter arrives with a backyard bonfire. Just think of it as another excuse to snack on some s’mores!
- Go take some photos. Fall is such a beautiful season for outdoor photos. The sun provides some amazing lighting and the trees are so rich in color, it makes for some awesome photos.
- Bake. This is my favorite baking season. It’s the only time of year that I give myself enough grace to indulge in yummy baked goods. Muffins, cakes, pies and more. Use this time to experiment with fall flavors. I love to use things like apples, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, pears, cranberries, etc.
- Write Letters. Ok, don’t think that I’m crazy until you try it. I’m not sure what it is but there really is something very charming and picturesque like about sitting by the window with a cup of coffee on a cool rainy day, writing out letters. In this very digital world that we live in, we can sometimes lose the personal touch and connectivity that comes from handwriting letters.
I’m really excited to add these things into the mix among the other Fall plans that our family has. Can yall think of that I’m missing on this list that I should be adding to our Fall list?
