I love Christmas! Every year I look forward to celebrating the holidays doing fun Christmas activities with family and friends. It’s such a magical time of year. There are so many traditions, and I couldn’t be happier about it. But like I said before, this time of year can be very busy and draining. So I try to do as much as I can to make it a stress-free month. That doesn’t mean it’s not crazy, because it usually is, but we like to fill it with traditions, service and fun family activities.
Remember my list of ways we celebrate fall? Well, today I’m going to share with you some of the quintessential Christmas activities that my family and I do as part of our pre-Christmas celebrations. Keep in mind that these activities are meant to be fun and add joy to the season. So if don’t overfill your days trying to cram them all in.
35 Quintessential Christmas Activities
- Cut or choose a Christmas tree
- Decorate a gingerbread house
- Have a cookie decorating party
- Decorate a wreath for your door
- Plan a red and green day (i.e. wear red and green all day or eat only red and green foods)
- Make paper snowflakes
- Donate towels and blankets to an animal shelter
- Have a silly, Christmas- themed family photo shoot
- Donate a brand new toy to a reputable charity
- Make a holiday greeting video and send it to friends and family
- Countdown with an advent calendar
- Make a hot cocoa bar
- Write a letter to Santa
- Create a Christmas themed scavenger hunt
- Make homemade ornaments
- Go to your local community’s tree lighting celebration
- Have a Christmas movie marathon
- Act out the Nativity scene
- Make Christmas cupcakes
- Have an ugly sweater competition
- Leave a ‘thank you’ note for your mail carrier
- Make a Christmas song playlist and have a family dance party
- Do a family white elephant gift exchange
- Take photos with Santa
- Take a ride to look at Christmas lights in the neighborhood
- Read stories together by the Christmas tree
- Hold a contest where everyone in the house has to wrap their bedroom door like a present
- Go to a Christmas show
- Decorate & hang lights outside
- Visit a nursing home and sing carols
- Challenge everyone in the family to perform acts of kindness for the 12 days of Christmas
- Go on a sleigh ride or Polar Express ride
- Game night with hot cocoa and candy canes
- Make reindeer treats
- Hang stockings while listening to Christmas music

Our tradition the day after Thanksgiving is to go and buy gifts for those in need. I love that tradition when it comes to Christmas. I think this year we should ornament, that sounds like a lot of fun!

There are so many ways to celebrate the Christmas season. We have many things we do every year. Decorating the tree, riding around seeing the christmas lights, baking and decorating cookies. Makes it fun.

These are some fun ideas! We do a lot of these. MY husband isn’t into the holidays as much so we do a lot of them without him. I tried to get him in matching pajamas and he was like, “No way.”

We always go to choose a real Christmas tree. It is our family tradition. My kids love picking it out!

We stop by the Macy’s Santa mailbox and mail our cards to Santa every year and we go see the local performance of the Nutcracker ballet. These are traditions I hope my kids will continue with their kids someday

We do several of these each year. One of the things our kids love to do is make reindeer food and then sprinkle it outdoors on Christmas Eve.
