Flying versus Driving

Flying versus Driving: Which is Better when Traveling?

Have you ever wanted to travel somewhere and not know what way of travel would be best to use? Should you travel by plane or by car? Well, a lot of the differences between these two methods can be helpful or harmful depending on what your goal is and where you’re traveling. In this article, I can give you some information as to what is better when traveling: flying or driving.

Why fly?

Flying is often first turned to in traveling. It is much faster than driving when you’re going long distances, as a 24-hour drive could be only around 3 or 4 hours at most as a flight. However, flying can also be quite expensive depending on your destination and your starting location. It also leaves you with having to find means of travel when you arrive at your destination. On short distances, flying is more expensive than it’s worth in the time saved. Flying also puts restrictions on what you can and cannot bring onto the plane, which isn’t that bad but can slightly increase your spending at your destination on foods or other items you couldn’t bring along and might need.

Why drive?

Driving can give you and your traveling buddies a long time together, which may be great or awful depending on the group. I love roastrips with my girlfriends but road trips with my family is epic. On long distances, driving takes much longer and ends up costing close to flight costs in gas. In shorter distances, driving can be a good way to travel as you have something to use as a means of travel within your destination as well. It can also help with what you bring because you don’t have travel restrictions besides how much space your vehicle has. This way you could bring a cooler with snacks and food for the drive so you don’t buy food along the way, or bring canned foods for cutting some costs on food at your destination.

Which is better?

Honestly, neither has a set answer to which method is actually better than the other when traveling. It can differ depending on your patience, budget, company, destination, and more. Generally, flying is better on longer distances and driving is better on shorter distances. However, each has its benefits and drawbacks as you’ve seen throughout this breakdown of each. If you’re looking for a bonding experience with your company and ability to pack plenty of stuff, maybe driving is for you. If you just want to get there fast and easy, flying might be for you. Either way, you have to look at your individual needs, wants, and budget to figure out which one is better.

Although there may not be a definite and final answer as to which is better, hopefully, this information can help you when you’re trying to determine which type of travel will be best for your needs. Always travel safely! If you have an opinion as to which is better to travel with, let me know in the comments. I’d love to see your feedback about this topic!
