Have you ever purchased a new home? I’m sure you will agree with me when I say it’s a major life decision. Ekkk! Well, Hubby and I have decided to follow our hearts and purchase our dream new home. After looking at a number of listings for existing homes and not finding anything that felt like “us,” we decided to go big with this experience and build from the ground up. A build seemed like the perfect solution– we’ll be able to start with a blank slate and really make it our own.
Our journey began last January when we visited this gorgeous model home.
We absolutely fell in love with this builder and floor plan. The kids even picked out which rooms were going to be theirs. It’s no small feat to have all 5 of us completely in agreement with such a huge decision. Yes, we do take the children’s vote into consideration when making these type of family decisions. So after much prayer and without a doubt in our minds, we picked our a beautiful corner lot and signed the contract to build!
Since then the builders have been busy building the new home for our family. If all stays on track we will move into our new home in June 2018.
While every moment of this is exciting, one of the biggest joys for me in building a brand new home of our own is the designing of it. Heading to the design center, hubby and I were pretty clear on who designs what. He chose the exterior design and most of the structural designs while the interior options were all up to me.
It was so exciting being able to pick things like countertops, flooring, cabinets, wall colors and so much more. You can check out some of the options I picked here. However, I must admit that part of me felt a bit overwhelmed by all the choices and the fear that I would pick styles that look terrible once it’s built. Luckily, I’ve been preparing for my dream home for just about my whole life so I’m pretty clear on what my style is – Suburban Modern Farmhouse.
While there were tons of options that I loved from the builder, let’s be honest. This is a cookie cutter builder and the house can’t be “completely” customized. So we are going to journey from taking our new home from cookie cutter builder grade to the Suburban Modern Farmhouse we love.
And this is going to to be a somewhat epic journey for us as we are going from 1,860 sq ft to 4,240 sq ft. So there is no shortage of empty rooms in our new home that need furnishing and decorating. We have tons of amazing ideas! And since we are content creators, of course, we plan on sharing this entire journey here, and on our IG, Facebook, Twitter & Youtube. We plan on partnering with amazing brands to add beautiful and affordable pieces to our new home that will be fabulous.
I’m sure that was a lot more info than you probably cared to know! 😉 I just thought it might be good to have a reference point for all of the changes you’ll be seeing soon. Be prepared for lots of construction photos coming up! This is going to be an epic experience for our family and I can’t wait for you all to come along with us on this new journey! In the meantime, head over here to check out our builder grade design selections.
