Working from home requires a high level of self-motivation and dedication to your job. Whether you work from home for yourself or an employer, being a remote worker has become quite popular and is growing in demand. If you find that you’re not quite working up to your full potential at home, and need some tips on how to structure your day when working from home then you’ve come to the right place. Today I’m featuring my top tips to structure your day working from home so that you can be more productive in your everyday work at home life.

Establish Work Hours

This is the number one part that many work at home professionals neglect to set in place. You must establish work hours. While it is possible to adjust these work hours since you work from home, you need to have a general time for your workday. This helps hold you accountable and allows family members to understand that during these work hours, even though you’re at home, you’re working.

Have a Task List

It’s so important that you use something to create a task list. Whether you prefer an online program like Asana or Trello or you simply stick to old school pen and paper, it’s important that you establish a task list for each day. The best way to ensure that you have a productive work at home day is to create your task list the night before or first thing in the morning before you do anything else. 

Schedule Breaks

It’s important that you allow yourself to take breaks throughout your work at home day. This can be two 15 minute breaks and a lunch hour if you want, the amount of time for each scheduled break doesn’t really matter. The key is that you have some breaks scheduled throughout your work at home day to recoup from the heavy workload many work at home professionals deal with. 

Get Dressed

It’s often said that work at home professionals enjoy working in their pajamas, and while that does hold true for some of us who work from home, others need a more structured schedule to feel like they’re at work. If you’re someone who has more motivation after a shower, consider showering and getting dressed for work every day that you have work at home hours schedule.

Stop Working when Work is Over

Last, but not least, many people who work from home struggle with separating work from family time. Since you’ve now established work hours, and have your task list with breaks built into your work at home day, it’s important that you allow yourself to stop working when the workday is over. Step away from your computer, shut off any notifications on your smartphone that may trigger you to pull yourself back into work and enjoy your non-working hours with family. 

There you have it, some tips to structure your day when working from home. Each of these tips, when combined, help you to be more productive and efficient with your work at home business or remote job.
