If you have eczema, you probably already know that finding products and routines can be an expensive game of trial and error. It’s all about finding something that moisturizes and protects without irritating the already inflamed skin causing the rash to get even worse. Today I’m sharing my ways to soothe eczema year-round & keep my skin clear and itch free without breaking the bank at Family Dollar.
Ways I Soothe My Eczema Year-Round
Diet
We know that what we eat, affects your entire body – especially your skin. The skin tips I provide help to keep your eczema hydrated at the surface are great, but eating healthy and knowing which allergens to stay away from will also help wonders. It’s also important to drink water throughout the day, so as to keep skin nourished and fully hydrated. Healing from within is critical for eczema.
Spend Time in the Sun
You may be surprised, another way to soothe eczema year-round is the sun. The sun has been proven to reduce skin inflammation associated with eczema and other skin conditions. Sunshine helps the body produce more vitamin D, which can help improve the symptoms of eczema. And sunshine is free! But be careful. The sun is good for eczema, but you shouldn’t stay in it all day long. Be sure to limit your hours in the sun to 15 minutes at a time.
Allergy Medicine
A dose of allergy medicine to control my allergies is helpful. Both food allergens and topical allergens can cause flair up. I good antihistamine is helpful to reduce those issues. I spotted some quality brands we know and trust at Family Dollar for a great value.
Bathing
Another way to soothe eczema year-round is bathing. I love oatmeal baths for days with bad flare-ups. Just add some oats into your bath. The water looks a little muddy, but the oatmeal will drain away. The best tip I’ve ever seen was using pantyhose to contain oatmeal. To save yourself the trouble of scooping rolled oats out of the bottom of the tub place it in a knee-high stocking and tie the end. This will allow the oatmeal to flow through the tub and you can use the stocking to rub the skin. Oatmeal baths are both a soaking and soothing situation. A short bath is better for dry skin you don’t want to over soak and cause the skin to dry out more.
Moisturizing
Moisture is important and it needs to be placed on the skin at once after bathing. I have tried many products to hydrate my awful dry skin. Recently I decided to give Vaseline Clinical Care™ Eczema Calming Lotion a try.
Vaseline Clinical Care™ Eczema Calming Lotion promises to provide relief for itching and irritation due to eczema. It is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin.
The lightweight formula contains a host of hydrating ingredients including Colloidal Oatmeal Skin Protectant. The colloidal oatmeal skin protectant made with with unique Barrier Repair Complex act to replenish the skin’s natural lipids that are lost from exposure to the environment. They not only restore moisture lost but they also help to protect the skin’s natural barrier and are particularly helpful when treating eczema.
Going into this purchase I wasn’t sure what to expect from this therapy cream formula. I was thinking light, creamy, and perhaps morphing into an oily or slick texture. I was right about the light and creamy part. It doesn’t take any effort to massage this into the skin. It absorbs vey well. I find using it as soon as I step out of the shower when my skin is still wet proves the best way to apply as the product. If I use it on my dry skin I’m sort of rubbing and rubbing and rubbing to get it absorbed. It’s not greasy or oily and once absorbed it leave skins very smooth and soft. It almost forms a protective barrier on my skin that feels moist but not greasy.
This unscented lotion is suitable for sensitive skin. I tend to have drier, itchier skin in the Winter and this soothed it instantly. If you have eczema or just dry, itchiness you’re bound to love this.
Vaseline Clinical Care™ Eczema Calming Lotion was easy to apply, it was incredibly soothing and had a hydrating finish.
